Closer Ministry Walk

I spent my entire young life in Washington, DC, my family introduced my siblings and me to the Lord by taking us to Bible school weekly and they also read from the Bible that was kept at our house. This built a strong foundation for me of wanting to follow the Lord. Because of my belief that the Lord never gives up on people who want His help, even though throughout my younger life I made mistakes, I always believed the Lord was there for me. I hit rock bottom before I was ready to return to the Lord, and when I did I asked the Lord to help me because I was ready to turn my life over to Him. Having spent the past 25 years of my life growing closer to the Lord after He rescued me from the bottom, I know that through my daily prayers and keeping my thoughts always on the Lord, more than I had ever done before that my life was a whole lot better. I believe the Lord transformed through the trials that I chose to go through the first 35 years of my life. Over time, I was ready to take the next step in a closer ministry walk with Him, since He had more for me that I was to pursue His purposes.

Through my desire for a closer ministry walk with God, I pursued my first ordination as an officiant minister so I could perform marriages for my nieces and nephews. I believed then, and still believe, that it was a good way to serve the Lord because of the opportunity to introduce young couples who believed in the Lord to His promises and commandments. I also started to feel that the Lord had more that He wanted me to do so I studied for my Ecclesiastical Certification to become a Pastor. After I received the certification, I still felt that I was to do more for a closer ministry walk, so I started researching online courses I could take and was directed to Christian Leaders Institute, where I have learned a whole lot more than I could have ever hoped to learn on my own or through simply reading the Bible.

The instructors for the courses I have taken so far have opened areas of my understanding of the Bible and given me a closer ministry walk with my Lord. Christian Leaders Institute’s courses on leadership and house church planting have given me the steps that I need to take to plant my own house church. It instilled in me a willingness to proceed and not give up if it doesn’t grow instantaneously which could be the case in most areas that have a church on every other block. I have learned that I shouldn’t rush to get started, but I also shouldn’t prolong starting. With Christian Leaders Institute having the professors that they have learning is enjoyable and not a chore.

I look forward to increasing my understanding of what the Lord has in store for me to fulfill His will and bring more people into His flock as I pursue a closer ministry walk with Him. I have performed one complete wedding along with counseling the couple and read scripture in a couple of others. I would like to get involved in one of the neighborhood elderly residences to interact with them in whatever capacity they are looking for. I also have been working with my sister who works with her son in law’s church during Thanksgiving to raise funds to help families in the area and worked with her doing clothing drives. I have been working for non-profit agencies for the last 25 years that serve those in need of housing, food, and counseling. I have been working in the IT department and see the work that my colleagues do to help. For the past 15 years, I have been working for a Catholic agency, and for the last five years, it has been run by a Catholic priest who has stressed the importance of working for the Lord to serve those in need. He has been a true inspiration and mentor to me, especially since I have been enrolled in Christian Leaders Institute.
