Chaplain Program
I am a 67-year-old woman who was recently called to ministry. God called me four years ago. I gave Him all the reasons why I am not qualified to be in ministry, including my age. I kept pushing it to the back of my mind. However, God kept pushing it forward. Now that I have wasted four years trying to resist, and after much research and prayer, I have enrolled in this fine educational Chaplain program at the Christian Leaders Institute. My intent is to become a hospital and hospice chaplain.
My Story
I have two wonderful sons and two grandchildren, whom I adore. My first career was in the corporate world. I started at the entry-level and climbed the ranks to Vice President within ten years. I worked in eight states and three countries during my 18-year career and enjoyed it immensely.
My health forced me to retire early. After a successful recovery and at the age of fifty, I entered an accelerated nursing program. I was a nurse for 11 years, working in many areas of nursing, including the Operating Room, the Stroke Unit, the Walk-in Clinic, the Prison, the Psych Hospital, home health, and hospice.
Chaplain Program at CLI
The Chaplain program does not require me to take the Licensed Christian Wedding Officiant class. However, I believe it is an important role within Chaplaincy. It will also be a good balance to my work in the hospital and Hospice. There are two times in a person’s life that it is an honor to be there: when they enter the world and when they leave the world. I have heard a fetus’s heartbeat and an elderly person’s very last heartbeat. I could never describe in words, the honor and the overwhelming sense of peace in those moments.
It is also an honor to be part of a couple’s very significant day. It is a time of joy and happiness that I can experience on multiple occasions.
I am excited and honored to be a student at the Christian Leaders Institute. As a result of the Chaplain program, I am learning so much and getting closer to God all at the same time. I will be eternally grateful for this education.
