Ordination in Oregon
My name is Robert Fouts. I’m 52 years old, and I was saved in the fall of 2012. I’ve been married to Keri since Halloween of 2014. Together, we live a humble and simple life in the Central Willamette Valley of Oregon. I grew up here and have lived in Oregon my whole life, except for one year in Orange, California, in 1988, and another year in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1987, the year I graduated high school.
Jesus saved me at my lowest point. I had been homeless and found myself surrounded by people I never thought I’d associate with. Struggling with pain, resentment, and hopelessness, I turned to alcohol and drugs to cope. One afternoon, completely alone and overwhelmed by the weight of my bad choices, I fell to my knees. I was done living that way and finally ready to do whatever it took to change. In that moment of surrender, I gave my life to Jesus Christ, relinquished my pride, and asked for forgiveness and a way out.
I was blessed with both. The forgiveness came immediately—I could feel it wash over me like a wave of grace. The exit plan, however, took a few weeks to unfold, but Jesus showed me the way. With courage I didn’t know I had, I walked away from that hopeless and sinful life and never looked back. Only Jesus could have saved me; left to my own devices, I was a complete disaster.
Today, I’m enrolled in the Chaplain program as I answer God’s calling to serve and influence the future leadership of our country. My focus is particularly on local community governments and the youth who will become our next lawmakers, civic leaders, law enforcement officers, judges, and more. I’m following Jesus’ lead by enrolling in CLI. While I’m not entirely sure where this path will take me, I know that the education I receive through CLI will be the foundation for whatever God has planned.
Recently, I completed the Wedding Officiant coursework and am now equipped to bring the joy of marriage to local couples. This opportunity strengthens my connection with the community. As a future Chaplain, establishing these relationships is a vital step in building long-standing rapport with the people I serve.
