Become Ordained in Alaska: Your Guide to Legally, Spiritually, and Academically Preparing for Wedding Officiant Ministry and More

Becoming ordained in Alaska to officiate weddings is a meaningful way to serve your community and celebrate one of life’s most cherished milestones. Alaska law outlines specific requirements for wedding officiants, and the Christian Leaders Alliance (CLA) provides study-based credentials to ensure you meet these requirements while excelling in this sacred role.

Understanding Alaska’s Wedding Officiant Laws

In Alaska, the authority to solemnize marriages is governed by Alaska Statutes § 25.05.261. The law specifies that the following individuals are authorized to officiate weddings:

  • Religious Officials: Ministers, priests, or rabbis who are ordained by a recognized religious organization.
  • Judicial Officers: Judges, magistrates, and other authorized court officials.
  • Commissioned Officers: Officers of the U.S. military when one party to the marriage is a service member.

Religious officiants must be ordained by a recognized religious organization. While Alaska does not require officiants to register with the state, having proper documentation of ordination is essential in case proof is requested.

After officiating a wedding, the officiant must complete and sign the marriage license and return it to the issuing office for official recording.

Ministry in Alaska

My name is Kristie Hagmeier, and I have a dream of creating a Pet Ministry. I live in Anchorage, Alaska, and I am in my fifties. I have lived in Alaska for nearly my entire life. Alaska is truly God’s country—just one look at the majestic mountains reveals His glory shining from the snow-covered Become ordained in Alaskapeaks.

Throughout my life, I have attended church sporadically, jumping from one to another. As a child, I went to Sunday services with my mother occasionally. As an adult, I mostly watched sermons on television. Over the past five years, I have become a faithful listener and fan of Christian Life Changing Radio. I also love reading and studying the Lord’s Word.

I am still searching for a home church. There are so many to choose from, but some can be misleading and deceptive. My struggle is often seeing only the good and overlooking the bad. I feel that Christian Leaders Institute (CLI) is like an all-inclusive home that fulfills my hunger and thirst for God’s Word. I believe CLI will provide the guidance I need, including peer mentorship and support. It will also equip me with the knowledge and discernment to recognize false teachings and intentions. CLI feels like a forever home that will help prepare me for a pure heart and a life dwelling in God’s house.

The pandemic of 2020 made it even harder to find a home church, as attending services in person was no longer an option. This happened just as my awareness of the need for a church home became stronger than ever. I am sure I am not the only one who feels it’s now or never. I found CLI at the perfect time—or perhaps CLI found me.

I love all animals, and I want to develop a Pet Ministry to serve both animals and their owners. My vision includes performing Pet Blessings, conducting Pet Burials, providing Grief and Loss Counseling, supporting animal abuse advocacy, and establishing a Pet Food Pantry.

GOD BLESS ALL ANIMALS—AND YOU TOO.

Proverbs 12:10
“A righteous man has kind regard for the life of his animal, but even the compassion of the wicked is cruel.”
