Become Ordained in Arkansas: Your Guide to Legally, Spiritually, and Academically Preparing for Wedding Officiant Ministry and More

Becoming ordained in Arkansas to officiate weddings is a meaningful opportunity to serve your community while celebrating one of life’s most cherished moments. Arkansas law outlines clear requirements for wedding officiants, and the Christian Leaders Alliance (CLA) provides study-based credentials to ensure you meet these standards while excelling in this sacred role.

Understanding Arkansas’s Wedding Officiant Laws

In Arkansas, the authority to solemnize marriages is governed by Arkansas Code § 9-11-213. The law specifies that the following individuals are authorized to officiate weddings:

  • Religious Officials: Ministers, priests, rabbis, and other clergy members ordained by a recognized religious organization.
  • Judicial Officers: Judges and justices of the peace authorized to perform marriages within their jurisdiction.

Religious officiants must be ordained by a recognized organization or denomination. While Arkansas does not require officiants to register with the state or local government, having proper documentation of ordination is essential to ensure compliance and provide proof if requested.

After officiating a wedding, the officiant must complete and sign the marriage license and return it to the county clerk’s office for official recording.

Become Ordained in Arkansas

My name is Christina Jamieson. I am a devoted wife, a mother to five amazing children, a very proud Gigi to the most adorable grandson, a furBecome Ordained in Arkansas mom to two rescued dogs, a feather mom to forty chickens, and a master hog caller (I’m a HUGE University of Arkansas fan!). But my greatest title is being a child of the one true God. I began following Jesus in 1996, and I cannot imagine doing life without Him. He is my ROCK.

When my friend asked me to officiate her wedding, I felt deeply honored but knew I wanted to approach the role with integrity and faith. As I searched online, it quickly became clear that being “ordained” through an “ordination mill” site did not align with my beliefs. I did not want my name associated with a secular ordination site because my biblical views on marriage and sexuality stand firmly on God’s Word, not the world’s shifting standards.

That’s when I found the Christian Leaders Institute (CLI). Receiving the license to be a Christian Wedding Officiant was exactly what I needed to honor God and officiate my friend’s wedding in a way that reflects His design for marriage.

Where will this journey lead? What additional classes will I take? I am not entirely sure yet. Only time and prayer will reveal the next steps. However, I am thrilled to begin this ministry journey and see what future opportunities the Lord will place before me.
