Become Ordained in Delaware: Your Guide to Legally, Spiritually, and Academically Preparing for Wedding Officiant Ministry and More

Becoming ordained in Delaware to officiate weddings is a meaningful opportunity to serve your community while celebrating one of life’s most cherished milestones. Delaware law outlines specific requirements for wedding officiants, and the Christian Leaders Alliance (CLA) provides study-based credentials to ensure you meet these standards and excel in this important role.

Understanding Delaware’s Wedding Officiant Laws

In Delaware, the authority to solemnize marriages is governed by Delaware Code Title 13 § 106. The law specifies that the following individuals are authorized to officiate weddings:

  • Religious Officials: Ordained ministers, priests, rabbis, and other clergy members who are ordained by a recognized religious organization.
  • Judicial Officials: Judges and other authorized court officers.

Religious officiants must be ordained by a recognized organization or denomination. While Delaware does not require officiants to register with the state, having proper documentation of ordination is essential for compliance and to provide proof if requested.

After officiating a wedding, the officiant must complete and sign the marriage license and return it to the issuing clerk of the peace for official recording.

Ordination Story from Delaware

My name is Brian Jenkins, and I am from Frederica, Delaware, USA. Frederica is a small, quiet, and friendly community. Recently, I was blessed to be part of restarting a church in a nearby town called Canaan Full Gospel Church in Houston, Delaware. This has been an exciting Become Ordained in Delawareand inspiring time for me as I witness the rebirth of a church after COVID-19 caused the loss of its entire membership. My hope is that this church will become a central part of my ministry for years to come, and I look forward to seeing it grow in Christ. This church is a blessing to the community through Christ, and the training I’ve received from Christian Leaders has significantly strengthened my walk of faith.

I believe the Deacon Minister ordination course will greatly benefit the growth of this church for God’s purpose. The solid foundation provided by the Deacon Ordination Classes has helped me become a better servant and worker for Christ. Christian Leaders has enabled me to understand and support the members, pastors, and bishop of the church more effectively, improving communication and collaboration. This course has deepened my relationship with Christ as I minister to and help others. The Lord has opened new doors for possibilities and growth in my spiritual journey.

Through this learning process of a church’s rebirth, I’ve realized that every member has at least one gift to contribute, no matter how small it may seem. One of the gifts I’ve been able to offer is my artistic skill, which I use to “get the Word out there.” For example, I help design posters and flyers for community outreach programs, such as free clothing giveaways and free lunches for school children during summer break. Additionally, I’ve learned about the vital roles others play in the church, like one elder lady who serves as a prayer warrior with her prayer closet at the church. Her dedication is a crucial part of the church’s spiritual foundation.

This experience and training have helped me grow in knowledge and understanding of the practical and spiritual workings of the body of Christ. I pray that the skills I’ve gained can be used to help other struggling churches in need of support. God’s Word is too precious to remain hidden or forgotten, and my goal is to keep the light of Christ shining in as many places as possible until my last breath, if the Lord permits.

My future goals include pursuing certificates in pastoral care, church planting, and chaplaincy to share the Gospel with the sick, addicted, misinformed, misunderstood, and nursing home-bound, under the supervision of the local church. As a retired firefighter, I also aspire to become a chaplain for one or more fire companies near me. Christian Leaders provides the skills and theological foundation I need to work toward an Associate Degree while continuing to practice and grow in Christ Jesus. I trust the Lord to guide me in whichever direction He leads, knowing His plans are always perfect.

I humbly ask for prayers that the Lord’s purpose be fulfilled in my life, that He will protect and guide me through whatever challenges lie ahead. Please pray for strength in my body, spiritual resilience, and unwavering passion until His will is accomplished. I also ask for prayers for Christian Leaders, that they may continue to grow and build an army of believers to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Pray for all who are taking these classes, that they may remain steadfast and not fall away to the enemy. Lastly, pray for the families of those in ministry, that they may find understanding and support for the journey their loved ones are taking for the cause of Christ Jesus.
