Why Become Ordained in North Carolina?
In North Carolina, wedding officiants must meet legal requirements to solemnize marriages. While the state does not have as strict of regulations as some others, it is important to ensure your ordination credentials come from a credible, recognized religious organization to avoid any legal complications.
The Christian Leaders Alliance provides a study-based ordination program that not only complies with North Carolina law but also empowers you to lead Christ-centered wedding ceremonies. Your role as an officiant extends beyond the legal aspect—it’s a spiritual calling to help couples build their marriage on a strong foundation with God at the center.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 (WEB) reminds us, “A threefold cord is not quickly broken.” As a wedding officiant, you help couples begin their marriage journey rooted in God’s love and design for their union.

North Carolina Ordination
My name is Karla Yvette Townsend. I am the ninth of ten children born to the late Robert and Fannie McFarland, Sr. I was raised in a Christian home, with my father serving as a pastor and my mother as a minister. I am the proud mother of three young men, whom I lovingly call my “Nations,” and the grandmother of eight beautiful grandchildren.
I gave my life to Christ at an early age and worked in ministry with my father as a youth leader and a leading psalmist in his church. However, as I grew older and left home, life brought challenges, including experiencing church hurt. During a difficult period, I stepped away from the church, but God’s hand remained upon me.
I renewed my relationship with Christ in my early 30s and began working with a local church in Raleigh, North Carolina. While serving, I developed a passion for helping women and children who were abused or in need of guidance. I started a ministry that included Bible studies and collaboration with the Salvation Army Women’s Center. I also served as a lead psalmist on the praise team, taught Sunday School, chaired the Women’s Ministry, and contributed to several other church auxiliaries.
As my walk with Christ deepened, I launched a Bible study group called “Spiritual Connect,” which started at my workplace and later expanded, leading many participants to give their lives to Christ. God also blessed me with the opportunity to author two books, one of which inspired a ministry podcast.
God often spoke to me through dreams and visions about my purpose. During one of the toughest periods of my life—my battle with breast cancer—God revealed even more about my call to ministry. Though I sometimes felt uncertain, His powerful hand guided and strengthened me throughout the journey.
In June 2022, I officially began my ministry, Breaking Chains Ministries, LLC, under the unction of the Holy Spirit. This ministry now includes two podcasts and reflects my passion and purpose: helping those who feel lost, hurt, rejected, judged, or labeled as “misfits” discover their true identity in Christ. My mission is to help them experience God’s unconditional love and develop a meaningful relationship with Him.
I never referred to myself as a “minister,” but others began calling me Minister Karla or Pastor Karla. I was simply happy to serve in whatever capacity God called me to. However, over the past year, I’ve felt an increased urgency to fully embrace my calling and become all that God has destined me to be in His kingdom.
While searching for diverse ministerial programs, I encountered many barriers, especially financial ones. When I discovered Christian Leaders Institute and learned about their affordable and diverse ministerial and licensing programs, I was overjoyed. After much prayer and seeking God’s guidance, I knew it was His will for me to enroll.
I am deeply grateful to Christian Leaders Institute and Christian Leaders Alliance. What they do to equip those in ministry is unparalleled, and they do it with such humility and excellence. Through the Licensed/Ordained Minister Program, I have already completed the Licensed Christian Wedding Officiant course. I believe this will enhance my ministry and expand my ability to serve. I am honored and excited to assist couples on their most special day as they make a lifelong covenant before God and their loved ones.
Isaiah 43:19 declares, “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it?…” I firmly believe that my journey with Christian Leaders Institute and Christian Leaders Alliance was divinely orchestrated. God is truly doing a new thing in me as I move forward in my purpose and ministry, advancing His kingdom agenda.
My prayer is that others will answer the call of ministry on their lives. I am thankful and excited to begin this new chapter in my journey!
