Ordained Leader Journey
Ordained Leader Journey
My name is John Hambel, and this is my ordained leader journey. I live in a little slice of heaven in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. My wife and I retired here a little more than a year ago and found a church with a fabulous group of people who quickly invited us into their home and hearts. We became disillusioned with some of the teaching there and decided to plant our own church. Therefore, the Body of Christ Church opened its doors in January of 2019.
Our Pastor received his training from Christian Leaders Institute (CLI). Due to this fact, the founders of Body of Christ Church agreed that its leadership should do likewise. Previously, I was in church leadership as an Elder and a Trustee. And when I began taking instruction with CLI, it was with service as an Elder in mind. However, after going through the initial course, I started thinking that Elder was merely a stop along my journey.
New Direction for my Ordained Leader Journey
My training has dramatically benefitted me, and I believe that it will help me serve the people in our congregation. Those in leadership have a great responsibility. So, I am grateful that CLI has broadened the depth of my knowledge as to the qualities needed to minister to the people we serve effectively. Since we have a new, growing church, the areas of potential service for me are numerous. In addition to having helped create the church, I am its Treasurer and Music Director. As we continue to grow in number, some of these tasks can be given to others. Thus, it will allow me to utilize the knowledge gained at CLI in other areas of ministry on my ordained leader journey.
I’m not sure where I’m going to end up in the ministry, but I know the direction I’m headed. CLI’s mission of equipping people for ministry will allow me, along with the other leaders of Body of Christ Church, to reach more people in Eastern Tennessee.
